Violence against women has not been a central theme for the Occupy movement but it has come up in several tangentially related topics.

Violence against women is a technical term used to collectively refer to violent acts that are primarily or exclusively committed against women. Similar to a hate crime, this type of violence targets a specific group with the victim's gender as a primary motive.

The Occupy movement faced challenge resulting from at least 4 reported rapes in Baltimore, Cleveland, Glasgow and Dallas. Some Occupations responded by constructing "safe houses" as part of their occupations.

V-Day, February 14th, is a global activist movement to end violence against women and girls inspired by Eve Ensler's play, The Vagina Monologues.

On February 12, 2013, "One Billion Rising" plans global celebration described as a "WORLD HAPPENING" women and men will dance across every country.
